The Hedland community will be treated to a celebration of food, culture and entertainment with a new Food Festival added to the annual calendar of events for the region.
The Town of Port Hedland, in partnership with BHP, is launching the new multicultural Hedland Food Festival from Friday 2 September to Sunday 4 September 2022.
The festival will include a two-day culinary event where people can enjoy a variety of fare from different producers, as well as live music and activities. Celebrity chefs and food personalities, Mark Olive and Julie Goodwin, will feature at the event, conducting food demonstrations.
Mark, known as The Black Olive, has been a chef for 25 years and starred in The Outback Café TV series. Julie became a household name when she won the hit television show MasterChef Australia in 2009 and recently returned as a contest on the 2022 series of MasterChef Australia.
Further activities and opportunities for partnerships across the Hedland community will be added to the festival’s run of events over the coming weeks.
Mayor Peter Carter welcomes the Town initiating a new event which celebrates Hedland’s multicultural identity.
“I’m excited to share the news that the Town is plating up the new Hedland Food Festival this September, celebrating our culturally and linguistically diverse community: the Kariyarra people, Thai, Malay, Filipino, Māori and many more cultures that make Hedland such a great town to live in," Mayor Carter said.
“The Hedland Food Festival will be a great opportunity for the community to connect over culinary experiences and also provide a big boost for the local economy.
“We’ve developed the Festival in line with the Town’s Arts and Culture Strategy, amplifying cultural opportunities which reflect Hedland’s multicultural community and identity.
“We look forward to hosting some well-known acclaimed chefs and providing local businesses with a new platform for trading and strengthening Hedland’s reputation for food and culture.
