Town of Port Hedland councillors have endorsed progressing the Rose Nowers Early Learning Centre expansion, marking a significant step toward increasing access to childcare services in the community.
At Wednesday night’s Ordinary Council Meeting, councillors approved the invitation of public tenders for construction of the expansion of the facility.
The expansion will substantially increase childcare capacity from 43 to 134 places, helping address an ongoing shortage in Hedland.
Mayor Jacinta Behrend said the expansion was a practical step in responding to longstanding community demand.
“Access to childcare is critical for families and our local workforce, and the Town remains focused on delivering practical solutions that support community wellbeing and economic growth,” Mayor Behrend said.
Upon completion, the expanded facility is expected to support increased workforce participation, particularly for families requiring access to reliable early learning and care services.
Council’s endorsement to progress to tender also enables the Town to continue discussions with funding partners, with both industry contributions and grant opportunities emerging as part of the project’s delivery pathway.
Further updates on project timelines and procurement outcomes will be provided following the tender process.
