The Town of Port Hedland would like to advise a seat on the Council has now been vacated.
Under Section 2.32(1)(c) of the Local Government Act, a councillor-elect must make a Declaration of Office within two months of an election result being declared.
Cr-elect Adrian McRae has not fulfilled this requirement, with the timeframe for him to make the Declaration of Office ending at midnight on Friday, 29 March.
Given this statutory timeframe has expired, the seat is vacated and will be offered to the first candidate to backfill, as outlined by the Returning Officer.
This candidate is Jemma Scott.
The second candidate for backfill is George Daccache.
The Town will now start the process of contacting these candidates to fill the vacancy.
