New Repair Café opens in Port Hedland to promote sustainability and skill-building

Published on Thursday, 31 July 2025 at 1:20:50 PM

Care for Hedland Environmental Association is excited to announce the grand opening of Port Hedland’s first Repair Café - a community-driven initiative designed to promote sustainability and empower residents with practical repair skills.

The first session will focus on teaching participants how to repair scooters and bicycles, encouraging a hands-on approach to maintaining everyday items.

The Repair Café aims to create a culture of repair over replacement, demonstrating that many items can be fixed rather than discarded to reduce waste and support a circular economy.

By offering free workshops led by skilled volunteers, the initiative empowers residents to take control of their possessions, save money, and contribute to a more sustainable community.

The Town of Port Hedland donated essential tools and equipment to the café and is committed to fostering a sustainable future by supporting initiatives that reduce waste and strengthen community resilience.

The event is open to all, and no prior experience is required.

Whether you’re a seasoned DIY enthusiast or a complete beginner, the Repair Café welcomes everyone to come, learn, and connect with others passionate about sustainability.
