The WA Department of Health has confirmed a locally acquired case of measles with potential exposure sites across Perth and Newman.

The WA Health website has provided a list of dates and exposure sites here

Symptoms to watch for:

  • Fever, tiredness, cough, runny nose, sore red eyes
  • A blotchy rash 3–4 days later (usually starts on the face and spreads)

Measles is highly contagious and can stay in the air for up to 30 minutes after an infected person has left.

Immunity guidance:

  • Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide strong protection

Anyone born after 1965 and who has not received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine is at risk of contracting measles.

If you develop symptoms:

  • Stay home
  • Wear a mask if around others
  • Call your GP or Healthdirect (1800 022 222) do not attend in person without calling first

Free MMR vaccines are available, including for people without a Medicare card.

This case had no recent overseas travel, which suggests undetected local transmission.
