The JD Hardie Adventure Park is a step closer to development after the Town’s application for Lotterywest funding was secured.

This morning, member for Pilbara Kevin Michel MLA visited the JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub to confirm the Town would receive $2.29 million towards construction of the community project.

The JD Hardie Adventure Park will feature BMX pump and jumps tracks and an activity park.

Town of Port Hedland Deputy Chair of Commissioners Martin Aldridge said the WA Government’s support for the project was welcomed.

“The JD Hardie Adventure Park will be a great community asset, further increasing and enhancing liveability in Hedland.

“Since being appointed as one of the three Commissioners to the Town, I’ve had the chance to engage with many local stakeholders who are keen to see this community focused project delivered, after years of planning. Local recreation infrastructure is vital in a community like Hedland with so many young families.” says Mr Aldridge.

The concept design for the JD Adventure Park was endorsed by Council in December 2023. It is the third stage of the JD Hardie masterplan which was endorsed by Council in July 2019.

Once the final project plan is considered at the October 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting, it is anticipated a tender for the park’s construction will be released soon after. The park should be ready for the community to enjoy in late 2026.

The Lotterywest grant is in addition to $2 million in funding secured through the West Australian Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.
