The Town of Port Hedland is excited to kick off the next phase of Hedland on the Horizon - a planning project that will reimagine the South Hedland Town Centre and West End precincts.
Following extensive consultation in the first phase, draft design ideas have been developed and are ready to share with the community for further input.
In total, 400 participants shared their insights - 266 in person and 134 online - providing valuable perspectives on potential opportunities, current constraints, future aspirations, and what makes each precinct truly unique.
The Town heard from various voices across Hedland including community organisations, industry leaders, youth, Aboriginal community members, local schools, businesses and residents.
Manager Planning and Economic Development, Chaz Roberts said the feedback received in the first phase had been vital to developing the draft scenarios.
“We’re really excited to showcase these scenarios that have been greatly shaped by the input from our community.” Mr. Roberts said.
“These scenarios will help people visualise what’s proposed with ideas and scenarios for South Hedland Town Centre and the West End.”
“This project is about ensuring the future of Hedland has dynamic spaces that attract businesses, offerings to energise tourism, and services to support a thriving local economy,”
Hedland on the Horizon aims to develop tailored plans for each precinct, creating a framework for future planning and development that supports livability, economic growth, and Hedland’s unique identity.
The plans will guide future development across key areas such as childcare and healthcare services, community hubs, dining and entertainment, offices, and retail, ensuring vibrant, inclusive spaces for generations to come. Medium and higher density housing will be supported in South Hedland Town Centre whereas only temporary accommodation can be developed in the West End in accordance with West End Improvement Scheme No. 1.
