Popular Fremantle hospitality operator Running with Thieves will take over the lease of the former Port Hedland Yacht Club premises.
At Wednesday night’s Ordinary Council Meeting, Town of Port Hedland Commissioners endorsed a 5-year lease for Running with Thieves.
The popular and well-established hospitality operator with headquarters in Fremantle is the largest operational independent brewery and distillery in Western Australia and now its setting its sights on Port Hedland.
The Town recently completed $2.1 million in refurbishment works on the cherished waterfront venue, putting the iconic premises in a prime position while ensuring long-term viability.
Running with Thieves Managing Director Tobias Hagen said he and the team were thrilled to bring their unique and fun brand to the Pilbara.
“We’re really excited to be part of the of new Spoilbank Marina development, and our contribution to the yacht club site will feel like home for the entire community,” Mr Hagen said.
Running with Thieves owner Mike Simm, who lived in Hedland for over a decade, said the team was committed to creating something truly special.
“I have many fond memories of the yacht club from my time in Hedland, and we can’t wait to create a venue our Pilbara neighbours will be jealous of,” he said.
“As a business owner in the Pilbara, we’ll also ensure we use local suppliers and products where we can.”
Town Director Regulatory Services Kylie Davies said the revamp of the venue would transform the Spoilbank Marina into a vibrant hub for recreation, hospitality and community connection.
“The former yacht club site reopening has been eagerly anticipated by our community for some time, and we’re thrilled to start working alongside Running with Thieves to see the vision come to life,” she said.
“This will be a fantastic addition to the Spoilbank Marina precinct and become a real focal point for the community and a drawcard for visitors to the Pilbara.
“This exciting development reflects the Town’s commitment to lifting liveability, demonstrating Hedland is a fantastic place to live, work and play.”
Running with Thieves will have the opportunity to renew the 5-year lease. Construction timelines and further details will be shared in the coming months.
