The Town of Port Hedland is encouraging residents to prepare their properties for the upcoming cyclone season by taking advantage of its free annual green waste collection service.

The initiative provides residents with a convenient way to dispose of excess garden waste, helping reduce the risk of flying debris during severe weather events.

Mayor Jacinta Behrend said the annual collection is an important part of the Town's commitment to community safety and cyclone preparedness.

"As we head into cyclone season, it's important that residents take simple steps now to make their homes safer.

"Cyclone preparedness starts well before a weather warning is issued, and taking action now can make a significant difference when severe weather arrives.

"We encourage all residents to take advantage of this free service and do their part to help minimise potential flying debris and strengthen our community's resilience,” said Mayor Behrend.

The Town will collect eligible green waste, including tree branches and palm fronds, placed neatly on verges during the collection period, giving residents a free and convenient disposal option.

Residents are reminded to place green waste out in accordance with collection guidelines before the collection date for their area.

Collection commences Monday 7 September with further information available on the Town of Port Hedland website.

Please note, green waste collection is for residential properties only
