Community notice – verge maintenance services

Published on Tuesday, 5 May 2026 at 3:00:42 PM

The Town would like to advise the community that the current verge maintenance contractor is no longer providing services on behalf of the Town, due to operational constraints.

Affected services include litter collection, brush cutting, mowing and slashing, removal of shrubs and blowing, followed by weed spray treatment across residential verges, laneways, footpaths, median strips and roundabouts in Port Hedland, South Hedland and Wedgefield.

Please note, the Town is actively making alternative arrangements to ensure essential maintenance continues.

What this means for residents

Some verge maintenance services may be temporarily disrupted while interim arrangements are put in place. During this period, the Town will prioritise public safety, visibility, fire risk mitigation and high‑use areas.

What the Town is doing

  • Implementing interim service arrangements to address critical and safety‑related maintenance
  • Progressing alternative service delivery options
  • Prioritising essential works, including sightline safety, high‑traffic areas and fire‑prone locations

What happens next

  • The Town is working to restore normal service levels as soon as practicable and will provide further updates as arrangements are finalised and service sequencing is confirmed.
  • The Town appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during this time and remains committed to maintaining safe and accessible public spaces.
