Community feedback driving the next chapter for Hedland

The Town of Port Hedland is refreshing its long-term vision for Hedland, with community input guiding the process.

The ‘Hedland Plan’ will be informed by feedback from the community, helping to shape a practical, strategic and forward-looking roadmap for the Town of Port Hedland’s future.

Community priorities have identified what’s working, what requires improvement and where change is needed, with implementation already underway.

Mayor Jacinta Behrend said outcomes from the Hedland Plan would help create a new Council Plan and Community Services Strategy.

“The Hedland Plan is a chance to pause, listen, and make sure we’re on the right track.”

“It takes what the community has told us, and turns it into clear priorities for investment, services and how we plan for the future,” Mayor Behrend said.

Insights from the 2025 Community Sentiment Survey, which gathered feedback on Council services, facilities and leadership, are a key foundation of the Hedland Plan.

This feedback is helping ensure Council decisions are informed by lived experience and local needs.

“Community voices are essential in shaping Hedland’s future. The Hedland Plan reflects what we’ve heard so far, but this is an ongoing conversation.”

“We encourage residents to continue sharing their ideas and priorities as we strengthen consultation and develop our Council Plan and Community Services Strategy.”

“This is about resetting and realigning Council’s work with what matters most to the people of Hedland - now and into the future,” Mayor Behrend said.

The refreshed vision will be used as a foundation for future decision‑making, including investment priorities, service delivery and long‑term planning across the Town.

Residents are encouraged to continue having their say by attending a workshop and having their say on the Hedland Plan engagement website.

Over the next two months, the Town will keep checking in with the community, sharing progress, listening carefully and testing directions to ensure the work reflects what the community expects and values.
