Since securing the keys in March 2026, the team from Running with Thieves has confirmed that significant work is progressing behind the scenes to transform the site into a vibrant, welcoming space for locals and visitors.

This includes progress on the kitchen fit out, the installation of key infrastructure, and planning for the overall venue experience.

Running with Thieves Managing Director Toby Hagen said while a confirmed opening date had not been set, the team was working toward welcoming the community to the venue later in the year.

“We know there is a lot of excitement about the venue, and we genuinely appreciate the strong support we have received from the community,” he said.

“More than 400 people have taken the time to respond to our recent survey, which shows just how much interest there is in seeing the venue open.”

Running with Thieves has also confirmed that it is preparing to support local employment, recently securing accommodation for key team members as recruitment planning continues.

“We want to reassure everyone that we are fully committed to delivering a great venue for Port Hedland. There is a lot happening in the background, and we are focused on getting everything ready to open the right way,” Mr. Hagen said.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Jacinta Behrend said the project represented an exciting addition to the local hospitality and tourism landscape.

“This venue is a welcome investment in Port Hedland and will play an important role in enhancing our local lifestyle and economy,” Mayor Behrend said.

“The new operators have made steady progress towards opening, and the level of community interest has shown how much people are looking forward to seeing this iconic destination welcoming locals and visitors once again. This venue occupies one of Hedland’s most spectacular waterfront locations. It’s always held a special place in our community, so it’s exciting to see it being brought back to life.”

The Town will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses and thanks residents for their ongoing patience and support.
