San Cisco

San Cisco are a four-piece indie pop group hailing from Fremantle, Western Australia. Initially whipped up in the wake of high school graduation, the foursome soon found themselves unwittingly defining hipster culture with the video for their breakout hit "Awkward."

Fast forward to 2015 where San Cisco delivered their sophomore album Gracetown which debuted at #2 on the ARIA charts showcasing a new sound for the band -- a more worldly approach to life; exploring the tyranny of love, displacement, homesickness, heartache and heartbreak, via disco, funk, soul and hip-hop undertones.

The group released their third album The Water in 2017 and embarked on an extensive world tour -- playing 21 shows in 46 days across America, Europe and Australia.

2018 saw the band play their biggest tour to date in some of Australia's most iconic venues as well as the release of new single 'When I Dream' coming in at #48 on Triple J's Hottest 100 -- the latter's video of which was filmed in Joshua Tree, California. The single served as the first taste of their upcoming record, due for release soon.

Thornbird

Description of image

After 28 years of singing and touring as one third of  ‘The Waifs’,

Vikki Thorn (Thornbird) returns home to find her own voice in the wild places of WA.

Known for her evocative song writing including Bridal train,  Sun Dirt Water & Take me to Town,  her new solo material was born out of 10 years of living in the canyons of Utah.  In these songs  she explores the recurring theme of home and connection to place and portrays the humor and heartbreak of life just south of Hell’s Backbone.

Thorn is renowned for her powerful vocals and unique blues harp playing and is a dynamic & passionate performer who has sung with Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, Paul Kelly, John Butler and Missy Higgins.

Her songs  weave through country  and blues, slightly side step away from the folk format of The Waifs to indulge her love of  the old R&B singing style.

Vikki Thorn’s  voice can swing and roll or radiate the intimate warmth of the morning’s first cuppa inviting you to sit at the kitchen table while she sings about life in the wild places.

Her forthcoming debut album is set to be released mid 2021.

Festival Background

The Town and BHP proudly present the North West Festival, the Pilbara's premiere music event! Following last year's cancellation, this year we're able to bring the much loved event back to the community in a COVID-Safe capacity. The event will be held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August in the Civic Centre Gardens, Port Hedland.

Due to state wide COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings, the Festival will be delivered on a smaller scale than previous years.

Both days are all ages licensed events. Families are encouraged to attend the Sunday 22 August event featuring family friendly activities. Patrons will be required to bring their own picnic rugs and chairs. The all WA artist line up will be the same on both days, giving all ticket purchasers the opportunity to experience the performances.

Both days will feature a licensed bar and food vendors, however patrons are welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks (subject to terms and conditions).

The event is made possible thanks to the Town and BHP's Community Events Partnership worth $1.23 million, securing a diverse roster of events for the Hedland community to enjoy from 2019 through to 2022.
