The Town of Port Hedland is set to celebrate Youth Week 2026 with free and inclusive events designed to recognise, empower, and celebrate the contribution of young people across the community.
Running from Friday 10 April to Thursday 16 April, Youth Week 2026 will feature a diverse program of activities for young people aged 12 to 25, with a mix of youth only and all ages events delivered in collaboration with local youth stakeholders.
Guided by young peoples' voices and shaped with input from the Hedland Youth Advisory Council (YAC), this year’s theme, Strength in Our Stories, celebrates the experiences, creativity and perspectives of young people and the positive role they play in Hedland every day.
The week will include a high energy Block Party and opening ceremony, a family friendly SHAC Pool Party and movie night, a Tri Sport Carnival, an Escape Room and Murder Mystery Day, and free movie sessions at Matt Dann Theatre and Cinema.
Manager Youth and Community Anna Savill said Youth Week was an important opportunity to shine a light on young people and provide spaces where they felt welcomed, valued, and connected.
“Youth Week is about celebrating the strength, creativity and voices of young people in our community,” Ms Savill said.
“This year’s program has been shaped by young people themselves, ensuring the events reflect what matters to them and create opportunities for connection, confidence and fun in safe, inclusive spaces.”
Hedland Youth Advisory Council member Ashley Dwyer said Youth Week creates opportunities for young people to feel heard and represented.
“Youth Week gives us a chance to share our stories and show that young people have strong voices and ideas that matter,” Ash said.
“It’s exciting to see events shaped by what young people actually want, and spaces where we feel welcome, safe and proud to be ourselves.”
Youth Week 2026 is proudly presented by the Town of Port Hedland in partnership with Fortescue as Major Partner, with support from Horizon Power.
Fortescue Director Approvals, Communities and Services, Rosli Wheelock said: “Port Hedland is home to many of our people, so it means a lot to support events like Youth Week and be part of something that brings young people together and helps them feel connected to their community.”
Ms Savill said the Town was committed to creating positive experiences for young people while also encouraging the wider community to recognise their contribution.
“Youth Week is more than a calendar of events, it’s about fostering belonging, strengthening community connections and celebrating the role young people play in shaping Hedland’s future,” she said.
All Youth Week events are free to attend, with clear age guidelines in place for individual activities. Accessible venues, family friendly options and low-cost experiences ensure Youth Week remains welcoming for young people and the broader community.
