The Town of Port Hedland is thrilled to announce Care for Hedland Environmental Association is a finalist in the 2025 WasteSorted Awards for their Sustainable Living Show Day event.

As a finalist in the ‘Community Events and Engagement Award’, this recognition highlights the outstanding efforts from Care for Hedland in working towards a low-waste, sustainable future.

Kelly Howlett, Operations Manager at Care for Hedland, noted the success of the 2025 event was built from the inaugural show day in 2024.

“We consulted with all local schools, daycares and community groups, and had over 500 people attend our second show day - which is a real testament to the amount of hard work we all put in behind the scenes, and how engaged our community is to get on board with sustainable practices,” she said.

“I’d like to extend my gratitude and thanks to our Principal Show Day Partner, Northen Star Resources, as well as our other partners and sponsors, BHP, the Town of Port Hedland, Pilbara Ports, Rio Tinto and Fortescue – for their involvement and generous support.”

Michael Cuvalo, Manager Environmental Services said the Town was proud to be in partnership with Care for Hedland.

“Our shared goal with Care for Hedland is to inspire every resident to embrace a sustainable lifestyle and make small changes that can lead to big impact,” he said.

“Initiatives like the Sustainable Living Show Day spark important conversations, and help us pave the way for a greener, more resilient and thriving Hedland.” He said.

The Hedland Sustainable Living Show Day, led by Care for Hedland, highlights the transformative power of community, local organisations, and industry working together for a sustainable future.

The winners of the 2025 Waste Sorted Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony later this year.
