Gratwick Aquatic Centre Update

Published on Wednesday, 23 October 2019 at 10:57:20 AM

Final stage works on Gratwick Aquatic Centre are currently underway, focused on ensuring the pool’s water testing and tiling is completed to the highest possible standard.

Two failed pressure filters have been replaced to comply with the WA Department of Health standards, following a filtration system failure.

Further, the facility’s ablutions, tiling, pool infrastructure and signage have been upgraded.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling apologised for the delay in reopening the facility, with the previously announced October date no longer feasible.

“We are committed to making sure that before we reopen the pool, all components are completed to the highest possible standard.

“Rather than open the facility in October, it is preferable to push back reopening to ensure everything is in order.

“I acknowledge the upgrades have experienced their fair share of challenges, with filtration system failure compounded by water testing and tiling delays.

“People are passionate about this pool, so we need to make sure the water is as safe as possible and the pool’s infrastructure is completed to stand the test of time before open day.

“I look forward to seeing Gratwick Pool open to residents soon, giving Port Hedland residents a cooling-off spot in the Pilbara summer.”

The official reopening date for the Gratwick Aquatic Centre will be announced in early November 2019.

South Hedland Aquatic Centre is open to residents seven days a week. Click here for opening times.
