The much-loved Sunset Food Markets are set to return to Mara Park this month, with a vibrant Pride-themed evening marking the start of the 2025 season.
A favourite fixture on the Town’s events calendar, the event is presented by the Town of Port Hedland and BHP, and delivered by PPP Events, with the aim of bringing people together to enjoy local food, live music, and community connection – all under the warm glow of festoon lighting and the unique backdrop of ships passing through the port.
The opening event, the Pride Sunset Markets, is in collaboration with PHLAGS+ and will take place on Friday 20 June, celebrating diversity, inclusion and community spirit.
Attendees can look forward to:
Live acoustic music by local performers
A dazzling show by Pilbara Pride performers and dance crew
Kids’ activities and face painting
A portside screening of The Birdcage
A range of food trucks, pop-up vendors and a licensed bar, open throughout the evening
Entry is free, with families encouraged to bring a blanket, enjoy a picnic, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere.
Mayor Peter Carter said the Sunset Food Markets had become a favourite fixture in the town’s events calendar.
“The Sunset Food Markets are a true reflection of Hedland’s spirit – welcoming, diverse, and vibrant. We’re proud to be opening this year’s series with a celebration of pride and inclusion, showcasing the colour and creativity that makes our town so special.”
The Pride Sunset Markets align with key objectives in the Town’s Strategic Community Plan, including enhancing liveability, activating the West End precinct, and creating inclusive, accessible spaces for all members of the community.
