The Town of Port Hedland has secured funding under the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program to deliver important road safety upgrades in South Hedland.

The funding will support safety improvements at the Murdoch Drive, Forrest Circle, Daylesford Road and Wise Terrace intersection - an area identified as having a history of right‑angle crashes.

Works will include the installation of speed humps on all approaches to the roundabout, along with new signage and chevron delineation to improve visibility and driver awareness. The project is valued at $175,000.

This investment forms part of the Australian Government’s ongoing commitment to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on roads by targeting high-risk locations with proven crash histories.

Mayor Jacinta Behrend welcomed the funding outcome, recognising the importance of proactive safety upgrades for the community.

“This funding is a positive outcome for our community and will help improve safety at a known risk location in South Hedland,” Mayor Behrend said.

“Our road network supports a mix of residential traffic and heavy vehicles, so targeted upgrades like these are critical to reducing the risk of crashes and keeping our community safe.”

The Town of Port Hedland will work closely with relevant agencies to progress the project, with construction timelines to be confirmed.
