New water tanks for Colin Matheson Oval

Published on Friday, 20 March 2020 at 9:19:15 AM

New water tanks have been installed at Port Hedland’s Colin Matheson Oval, following catastrophic and irreparable failure of the previous tanks in September 2019.

The new tanks have increased volume capacity, improving the irrigation amenity of the Oval and its usability for sporting groups and residents into the future.

The project’s primary contractor was Water Torque and the secondary contractors were Goodline and S.K.E.

The new tanks align with guidelines set out in the Recycled Water Quality Management Plan (RWQMP) and the Department of Health.

Works also included the removal of dilapidated control equipment and upgrades to associated irrigation infrastructure in the vicinity.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the works were part of the Town’s commitment to ensure irrigation assets were upgraded.

“I’d like to thank Town staff and contractors for completing the works to a high standard, securing the irrigation requirements of the Oval.

“Colin Matheson Oval is highly valued community asset, providing ground for sporting teams and residents to live active and engaged lifestyles.

“Clearly, it’s an uncertain time at the moment for Hedland’s sporting clubs, however this infrastructure upgrade will be utilised by our Parks and Gardens crews for years to come.”
