Community members are reminded to responsibly use off road vehicles, including quad bikes and trail bikes.
An off road vehicle is classified as a vehicle under the Control of Vehicles (Off Road Areas) Act 1978 and must be registered if it is intended to be used on any land other than private property.
The Port Hedland Spoilbank and the Deepwater Reserve off North Circular Road in South Hedland are the only public areas where off road vehicles are permitted to be used.
When used in unpermitted locations, these vehicles often cause a disturbance to residents and pose significant risks to safety.
You can register off road vehicles at the South Hedland Post Office, with a number plate and Certificate of Registration being issued: number plates must be attached to the rear of the vehicle.
Fines may be issued to those who use these vehicles in any other public area, with Council Rangers and Police possessing the authority to seize vehicles.
