The Marquee Park learn to ride track and upgraded playground - Hedland’s newest playspace - is now open for children and families to enjoy.

It is one of a number of playgrounds the Town of Port Hedland has prioritised to provide upgraded or new play spaces for families to enjoy.

The learn to ride features a painted concrete single carriageway track with working traffic lights, street signs, pedestrian crossing, rumble strips, a roundabout, textured cobblestones, bike racks and bollards.

The track is designed for younger riders who are learning to ride bikes or scooters.

It will be complemented by the upgraded playground which features new  softfall throughout, an interactive recycle truck, interactive helicopter with slide and climbing rope, vespa springer, motorbike and side-car springer, the existing rope play equipment and new swings, including a mum and bub swing.

Construction has also started on the interactive, adventure playground at Spoilbank Marina.

The playground is being funded through a $4 million grant from Lotterywest and being delivered by local construction company Yurra.

It is hoped the playground will be completed by late 2025.

The Town is currently seeking feedback on a proposed Kariyarra name.

Kurlu Kurlu Wirri has been provided by the Kariyarra Aboriginal Corporation, which means ‘little people play’ in Kariyarra language.

Work has also started on new equipment at the Limestone Park playground in South Hedland.

The existing playground equipment and softfall are due for replacement, with Yurra contracted to complete the upgrade.

The existing shade structures will be repainted and maintained as part of the project, which is due for completion in September.
