Last Thursday night, the dance floor at the JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub came alive as the much‑loved Blue Light Disco made its long‑awaited return to Hedland.
Hosted by the JD Hardie team in partnership with WA PCYC, and the WA Police Force, Pilbara District, the event marked the first Blue Light Disco in our community in more than three years, and the energy on the night showed just how much it had been missed.
From glow sticks lighting up the room to laughter echoing across the dance floor, the night was all about fun, connection and bringing our community together in a safe and welcoming space. Classic favourites like the Chicken Dance, the Macarena and a bit of line dancing had everyone jumping in, while a sausage sizzle kept dancers fueled throughout the evening.
Around 55 young people and community members joined the celebration, sharing smiles, music and memories, a true reminder of the power of simple, positive community events.
Anna Savill, Manager of Youth and Community at the Town of Port Hedland, said it was special to see Blue Light Discos return to Hedland, especially knowing the history behind them.
“Blue Light Discos have been part of Hedland’s story since 1983, and bringing them back was about more than just music and dancing, it was about reconnecting our young people, families and local services in a positive way,” Anna said. “Seeing everyone on the dance floor, laughing and having fun together, really captured what community is all about.”
The Town of Port Hedland would like to thank WA Police and WA PCYC for their continued support and partnership in creating safe, inclusive and memorable experiences for our community.
Here’s to more music, more connection and many more nights like this ahead.
