Australia Day Events 2022

Community Pool Party
Free Entry
Whilst the BHP Community Pool Party runs from 2:00pm – 5:00pm, free entry to South Hedland Aquatic Centre is available to community members from 12:00pm – 6:00pm.

Please be advised that Gratwick Aquatic Centre will be closed on Australia Day to facilitate the Community Pool Party at South Hedland Aquatic Centre.   

Supervision of Children
Attendees are reminded that:

  • Children under 6 years – always keep them within arm’s reach.

Parents and carers must be 18+, and within arm’s reach – meaning you need to be in the water with your child, at all times.

  • Under 12 years – always keep them in sight.

Constant active supervision is required for children. Parents and carers must be 18+, prepared to enter the water and maintain constant visual contact.

Please note this event is alcohol and other drug and smoke free.

Fireworks Spectacular
Marie Marland Reserve Closure
Due to setup and pack down of the Fireworks Spectacular, Marie Marland Reserve (including the off-leash dog park) will be closed off from the public from 10 am Tuesday 25 January – 12 noon Thursday 27 January 2022.

Traffic Management
Due to the Fireworks Spectacular, the following road closures will be in place from 4:30pm – 10:00pm on Wednesday 26 January:

  • Closure of dirt parking area on the Eastern side of Kevin Scott Oval
  • Closure of Parola Court (access to ESS Gateway Village available via Nimingarra Court only)
  • Partial closure of Hudson Way (access to Club Hamilton still available)

In addition to the existing parking areas at Kevin Scott Oval/Wanangkura Stadium, the following overflow parking areas can be utilised for the event:

  • Faye Gladstone Netball Courts
  • Matt Dann Theatre & Cinema
  • Dreamer’s Corner

Traffic Controllers will be in place to assist patrons to safely cross Hamilton Road if they have accessed overflow parking areas.

Accessible parking, taxi/rideshare zones and loading zones are available at Kevin Scott Oval/Wanangkura Stadium.

Fireworks and Pets
Remember although us humans enjoy fireworks, your pets may not be as impressed by them. It is encouraged you bring you pets inside and give them a safe place to wait out the loud noises from the fireworks at 8:30pm.
