We're pleased to share with the Hedland community that Mother's Day Classic is back in 2021! Mother's Day Classic combines the flexibility of a virtual fun-run or walk, with the community atmosphere of the on the day event.
This is a much loved event which gives locals the opportunity to celebrate Mother's Day, while raising crucial funds for Breast Cancer Research.

Once you register with the national Mother's Day Classic Organisation, you will receive access to exclusive online content, a race pack and the opportunity to participate at the Port Hedland event on Sunday 9 May from 7:00am in the Civic Centre Gardens.
You will need to login and select the location where you will be participating: 'Port Hedland'. There will be no on-the-day registrations, so you must pre-register online.
The physical event will be on a small scale this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic: there will be staggered walking and running times.

Breast Cancer Facts
- 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime.
- 1 in 675 men will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime.
- 8 Australian die ever day from Breast Cancer.
- Approximately 55 Australians are diagnosed with Breast Cancer every day.
- In the last 10 years, rates of Breast Cancer diagnosis have increased by 38%. The survival rate for metastic Breast Cancer is much lower at 32%.
- Since 1994, the five-year survival rate for Breast Cancer has increased from 76% to 91%.
- Without research, 27,000 more lives will be lost to Breast Cancer by 2030.
- The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) has funded vital life-saving research into breast cancer since 1994, and the data shows that this funding. from the generous Australian community has resulted in nearly 47,000 lives having been saved in this time.
- The Mother's Day Classic Foundation has donated $37.95 million to the NBCF to fund life-saving research.
- Over 160,000 kilometres travelled by Mother's Day Classic participants in 2020.
Essential Event Information
REGISTRATION
UPDATE Friday 7 May 2021
Participants can register online by visiting www.mothersdayclassic.com.au. Once registered, participants are required to Choose Port Hedland and confirm their arrival time. Participants will be required to arrive at their designated time and proceed through the check in stations.
WALK / RUN
Attendees can participate in a 4km walk/run at their own pace. The course will start at the Civic Centre Gardens and head East on Sutherland Street foreshore footpath for 2km. At the 2km mark, you will be met by our friendly volunteers at the turn around point, participants will then finish back at the Civic Centre Gardens.
COVID SAFE
- Stay home from the event if you’re unwell.
- Keep hands washed and sanitised using the onsite facilities. Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow then practice hand hygiene.
- Maintain physical distancing and avoid unnecessary physical contact with others.
- Complete COVID-19 health screening documentation at check in.
ACCESSIBILITY
The event is accessible for attendees in wheelchairs or those using prams. The venue has accessible toilet (Male/Female Ambulant and Unisex RH) and parking facilities.

PARKING
Accessible parking is available at the Civic Centre car park off McGregor Street, Port Hedland.
WALKING
If you live within walking distance to the event and are arriving on foot, please note you must only enter the event via the Civic Centre car park on McGregor Street to complete event check in.

Upon entering the event, attendees will need to do the following:
- Sanitise their hands at our complimentary sanitiser stations.
- Complete COVID-19 health screening documentation.
- Proceed to check in station.
FOOD AND DRINK
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, with water facilities available inside the Civic Centre.
For those who need a pick me up, Hai’s Coffee Van will be trading on site from 7:00am – 10:00am.
A free BBQ breakfast will be available for attendees.

Attendees are required to bring their own picnic rugs or chairs to the event as no seating will be provided.

If you have any questions, have lost something or someone or need medical attention, approach one of our friendly event volunteers or visit the Information Desk/First Aid location in the Civic Centre gardens. In the event of an emergency follow the directions of the event volunteers.
KEEP PORT HEDLAND BEAUTIFUL
Let’s ‘Do the right thing’ at the Civic Centre Gardens. Dispose of your litter in the waste and recycling bins provided.
FAMILY FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES
Face painting and pop up photo booth station will be available from 7:00am – 10:00am via gold coin donation.
