The Town of Port Hedland is pleased to announce the appointment of Dale Stewart to the permanent role of Chief Executive Officer, marking an important milestone in the Town’s ongoing program of work to stabilise the organisation and strengthen its leadership.

Town Chair of Commissioners Jessica Shaw said the appointment followed an extensive and competitive recruitment process and reflected the importance of securing proven executive leadership for the Town.

“Appointing a permanent Chief Executive Officer is a key part of our program of work to rebuild organisational capability,” Ms Shaw said.

“The Town has been without a permanent Chief Executive Officer for well over a year, so this appointment is an important step forward."

“Mr Stewart brings proven leadership experience and a strong track record in senior executive roles, which will be critical in providing stability for the organisation, supporting our workforce and rebuilding confidence in the Town’s administration."

“This appointment also provides a strong foundation for the incoming Council following the March elections.”

Mr Stewart said he was looking forward to joining the Town at an important time.

“Port Hedland is a significant and complex local government, and I’m looking forward to working with the Commissioners, staff, the incoming Mayor, elected members and the community, to support the Town’s ongoing reform program," Mr Stewart said.

"Strong governance, a capable organisation and a supported workforce are critical foundations for delivering services and outcomes the community expects."

Mr Stewart is an accomplished Chief Executive Officer and senior local government leader with more than 40 years’ experience serving diverse and complex communities across Western Australia.

He has led four local governments as CEO and held senior executive and consultancy roles across the sector, bringing exceptional capability in governance, financial management, strategic planning, and organisational development.

Mr Stewart is recognised for delivering major capital works programs, long-term financial plans, award winning community initiatives and robust organisational reforms.

He joins the Town of Port Hedland from Shire of Narrogin, where he has been CEO for the past seven years.

The appointment will commence on 11 May.

Temporary CEO, Mr Kenn Donohoe will remain in his current role until Mr Stewart’s starting date.
