The Town of Port Hedland has officially marked the beginning of construction for the $7.2 million JD Hardie Adventure Park & Pump Track project, turning the first sod on what will become one of the region’s premier recreation spaces for young people and families.

Early works and project preliminaries have now commenced, with the head contractor Byblos Construction preparing to establish on site in late March to early April. This schedule has been planned to ensure the majority of the project is delivered outside the Pilbara cyclone season, helping to minimise delays associated with adverse weather.

The project is on track to open in November, ready for the 2026 Christmas school holidays.

The upgrade will include a purpose‑built BMX pump and jump track designed and delivered in partnership with Common Ground Trails, incorporating strong local design influence thanks to valuable input from the Hedland BMX Club. This collaborative process ensures the final product reflects the needs and aspirations of local riders — truly a track created for the Hedland community, by the Hedland community.

A significant portion of the project work has been awarded to Pilbara‑based businesses, supporting local industry and regional employment. Byblos Construction’s Tom Price team will lead delivery, bringing strong regional capability to this major project.

The Town acknowledges the generous funding support provided by Lotterywest, the WA State Government through the Community Sporting & Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), administered by the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, and Pilbara Ports Authority, whose contributions have enabled this transformational project to proceed.

The JD Hardie Adventure Park & Pump Track represents a major step forward in creating high‑quality, inclusive recreation spaces that support youth wellbeing, active lifestyles and community connection.

The Town looks forward to sharing ongoing project updates as works progress.
