Town of Port Hedland Welcomes the State and Local Government’s Partnership Agreement

An intergovernmental agreement has been signed by the Premier and representatives of State and Local Government to help ensure local communities are heard on key decisions.

The agreement, signed during the WA Local Government Associations’ Annual General Meeting yesterday, sets out how the two sectors consult and communicate with each other on significant issues.

The meeting was attended by Town of Port Hedland Mayor, Camilo Blanco, Councillors Julie Arif and Louise Newberry and Town of Port Hedland CEO David Pentz.

Mayor Blanco welcomed the agreement, saying that stronger cohesiveness, improved communications and consistency across all levels of government, can only enhance the work being done at a local level to address the real issues facing our communities.

“Through an open and collaborative approach we will be able to quickly identify shared challenges and set about implementing long-term solutions for the benefit of all West Australians”, he said.

“We’ve already started this process and have been working to strengthen relationships with our government, business and industry partners to ensure the best possible outcomes for the local community and wider Pilbara region”.

“We applaud the Premier and State Government on the new initiative and look forward to seeing positive results right across WA.”
