Dog and Cat Registration

Dog Registration

As per the Dog Act 1976, all residence 18 years or older being owners of dogs are required to register their dogs with their nearest Local Government Authority. Dog registration has many benefits for owners, including rangers being able to safely return your dog when it becomes lost.

If you own a dog aged more than 3 months, please be aware that you are legally required to register the animal with your local Council. It is an offence not to register your dog and you could be issued with a significant, on the spot fine for failing to do so.

Cat Registration

Introduced in 2012. the Cat Act 2011 requires all cats over six (6) months to be sterilised and registered with their nearest Local Government Authority. With many stray cats roaming around the Town it is important to ensure your cat is registered so we can return your beloved pet if it gets lost. Stray cats which are not claimed after a period of time are either rehomed or euthanised if they cannot be rehomed.
