Celebrating our pawesome friends

The Hedland community came together on Saturday morning to celebrate the official opening of the new dog recreation area at Marquee Park.

The park now features three off-leash dog areas including a separate puppy area, a small-medium dog area and an all-dog area. The dog recreation area is the first stage of the Hedland Playspace Precinct Redevelopment to be completed.

The project will include the former splash pad being developed into separate ninja warrior/outdoor fitness, parkour obstacle zones incorporating existing shade structures and a ‘Scoot and Ride’ track.

Multi-use green space will be maintained throughout Marquee Park with picnic facilities retained.

Members of the public and their furry-friends got involved in the morning of activities which included socialising with other dogs, having their photos taken and enjoying coffee from Margie’s Kitchen.

Mayor Peter Carter said he was pleased people enjoyed the event as it demonstrated the need for more dog exercise areas in South Hedland.

“We are committed to providing Hedland with facilities they can use for exercise and connection.“

“Our furry friends deserve a space where they can run, play, and socialise freely, and we're proud to provide that right here in our community."

Later in the morning, prizes were gifted to those who entered into the 'Top Dog Comp', as well as giftbags to everyone in attendance. Residents can also access free doggie bags onsite to encourage cleaning up after their dogs.
