Banners in the Terrace

Are you a local student or artist between the ages of 12 and 18?
Do you want to participate in the Banners in the Terrace competition for 2018? The best banner design will win the opportunity to paint the banner and have it submitted by the Town of Port Hedland for competition in Perth during Local Government Week.
Details:
The theme for this year is Ready and Relevant and artists may choose to create their banner design around this year’s theme but adhering to the theme is not a judging requirement so you can be creative!
- Create your design ensuring the name “Port Hedland” is included.
- Use the official entry form to submit your design to the Town of Port Hedland by 4pm, Thursday 3 May. Please scan and email to cdixon@porthedland.wa.gov.au or deliver to the Civic Centre, McGregor St, Port Hedland.
The size of the final banner is 3.4 x 1.5 metres. For the design submission please use the blank, scaled-down version on the A3 sheet.
Hints!
Use strong bright colours and bold lettering to stand out from the crowd! Although the banners look large on the ground, they are hung at a height that makes even large lettering and pictures seem small.
Keep any written messages short and simple and use large and clear lettering. The judges will consider:
- Is it easy to identify where the banner comes from?
- Can you easily read the Council’s name?
- How is the composition of the piece?
- Can you identify something about the place? Eg. does it depict wildflowers, farming, cafes etc
- Use of colour and creativity
- Artistic merit
- Individuality, boldness and humour.
The winner:
A panel will select the best entry to submit to Perth, the winner will then receive a banner and paint. The final painting must be completed by 15 June to allow for delivery time. Banners will be displayed from 22 July to 4 August

- Banner – 3.4 x 1.5 metres
- High quality paints
- Freight costs
