A Town of Port Hedland and BHP initiative has heralded the launch of a new hospitality offering in the West End of Port Hedland.
Local restaurateur and chef Zach Green recently opened the family friendly Little Starfish at Marapikurrinya Park, with West End Seafood Shack to soon follow, and local favourite Illuka’s Kitchen returning from June.
It is the first hospitality offering at the scenic Marapikurrinya Park after a successful tender process for hospitality businesses to operate out of the pop-up venues.
Mayor Peter Carter welcomed the milestone and said the partnership with BHP afforded increased opportunities for local businesses.
"The Marapikurrinya Park pop-ups are an integral part of the broader revitalisation efforts in the West End area and this collaboration with BHP has provided an opportunity to foster economic growth, diversification, and resilience within our community.
"We're committed to providing opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses in our community and these pop-ups are an example of our dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation," said Mayor Carter.
Through an expression of interest process, the Town invited experienced food vendors to apply for one of the pop-up locations, aiming to deliver premium hospitality offerings tailored to the local area and the diverse tastes of the community.
Managed by the Town and funded by BHP, the pop-ups offer an opportunity for commercial and community ventures, welcoming various user groups on a short-term basis.
“It is a great to take advantage of this world-class setting, to offer opportunities for independent businesses and local groups, while also delivering what the community has been calling for – it is a great step in improving the town’s liveability,” Mayor Carter said.
Cindy Dunham, BHP General Manager Port said it is fantastic to see the pop-up containers in action and helping to revitalise the West End.
"Not only do they support small business and local jobs, they create a vibrant space for the community to connect, and bring new, family friendly dining options for everyone to enjoy.
"It's an important step for the future of the West End and something we're very pleased to support," Cindy Dunham said.
