The Town of Port Hedland has launched its 2023 Festive Lights competition, with $3,750 in cash prizes up for grabs*.
The annual competition celebrates the festive season with a competition recognising households for creativity in their lighting and decorative displays.
Thanks to sponsors the Pilbara Ports Authority and Horizon Power, the Town has made this year’s competition bigger and better with larger cash prizes on offer.
The categories include Best Display $1,500; Runner up Best Display $750; People’s Choice $500 and two new categories, Best First Year Display $750 and New Entrant Encouragement $250.
Previous years have seen bright and cheerful displays from giant Santa Claus, light up candy canes, interactive displays and dancing elves.
Registrations officially open today, 15 November, with people able to register their homes online, even if they haven’t finished displays just yet. Displays need to be completed by Monday 11 December, when judging occurs.
An interactive map will be available from 8 December pinpointing the festive light displays around Hedland to provide the community with an opportunity to check them out.
Town of Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said if ever people needed a reason to get out the festive decorations and lights, the Festive Lights competition was it.
“The Festive Lights competition is a great opportunity for families to spread cheer and enjoy the creativity that many households put in over the festive period,” Mayor Carter said.
“Thanks to our sponsors the Pilbara Ports Authority and Horizon Power for helping the Town make this competition bigger and better for 2023.”
