2009 Volunteer of the Year Awards

Volunteers are a very important part of the Hedland community and the Town of Port Hedland would like to acknowledge their valuable contribution.

If you are a volunteer, or you know of people who volunteer and would like to recognise their dedication, nominate them for the 2009 Volunteer of the Year Awards to say THANK YOU!!!

Volunteers can be nominated for the following categories:

• Sporting Clubs / Associations
• Community Groups
• Emergency Services
One winner will be selected from each of the above categories by a panel of judges. Individuals can nominate more than one volunteer.

The awards will be presented at a FREE Outdoor Family Movie Event on Friday 11th December 2009.
Where: Shay Gap Park, South Hedland
Time: Awards will be presented at 6.45pm, movie will be screened at 7.00pm
Movie: Santa Clause 3: The Great Escape
Food and Drinks will be available for purchase.

2009 Walk it Hedland Paws Walk

Time: 7.45am for an 8.00am start
Date: Saturday 21 November 2009
Where: Civic Centre Gardens
Distance: 4km
Cost: $5.00 per dog with all proceeds going to Safe

Walk it Hedland

Walk it Hedland is a new walking initiative funded by Healthway, BHP Billiton Iron Ore, South Hedland New Living and supported by the Town of Port Hedland.

As a part of the project a walking map has been produced, which contains a number of walking routes for Port and South Hedland. This map can be downloaded electronically using the link below or is available at the following locations:

Civic Centre
JD Hardie Centre
Port Hedland Library
South Hedland Library
Well Womens Centre
Visitors Centre

As a part of the project a number of pedometers are also available for FREE hire from the Port and South Hedland Libraries.

Australia Day Sports Awards - Now Open!!!

Nominations are now open for the 2010 Australia Day Sports Awards. The Awards recognise sporting excellence for local athletes and sporting clubs / associations. The awards will be presented at the Australia Day Breakfast on the 26th January 2010. Nominations close on the 22 December 2009.

Categories include:

ITOCHU Junior Sports Award - Nomination Form
Sports Star of the Year Award - Nomination Form
Percy Gratwick VC Sports Excellence Trophy - Nomination Form
