Services & Facilities Town Planning

Council is responsible for the regulation of the use and development of land within its area. The main tool for controlling land use is the Council’s Town Planning Scheme No.5. The Scheme zones and reserves land for a variety of uses and controls elements of development, such as building size, car parking and open space provision.

If you are planning to develop land in the Town of Port Hedland District, you may require Planning Approval.

Planning Services can also assist you with: Crown land enquiries; Laneway and road closures; Built Heritage matters; Town Planning Scheme Amendments.

The Town of Port Hedland’s Building Department ensures buildings, both existing and proposed are compliant with the Building Code of Australia.

The objectives of the Building Code of Australia is to ensure acceptable standards of structural sufficiency, fire safety, health and amenity are maintained in all building work.

The function of the building surveyor in administering and enforcing building regulations is to avert or at least minimize the risk of danger to health and safety from sub-standard building work.

CINEMA - BOX OFFICE - LIVE THEATRE - CULTURAL PERFORMANCES - COMMUNITY EVENTS - CONCERTS - VENUE & EQUIPMENT HIRE The Matt Dann Cultural Centre is a joint facility between Town of Port Hedland and Hedland Senior High School located conveniently in South Hedland. The Centre offers a range of services for the community including box office movies, live theatre, comedy, music and venue hire opportunities. The Centre includes a multi-purpose Theatre seating 302 guests, a green room, stage level loading bay, large foyer and kiosk.
