MATT DANN CULTURAL CENTRE - UPDATE ON CYCLONE DAMAGE
The Town of Port Hedland has completed an assessment of the water damage caused to the Matt Dann Cultural Centre (MDCC) with a result that the Centre is being forced to remain closed until early March.
The MDCC has suffered significant damage needing urgent remediation works, which will commence as soon as possible.
All movies scheduled for January and February have been cancelled. The MDCC will reopen in March with a live show on Thursday 8 March titled “The Big Hoo Ha” - an improvised comedy show which has received rave reviews all over Australia.
“Thank you to everyone for their patience over the past two weeks - we have had to cancel some big movie screenings due to the damage incurred, and we are pleased to report that everyone has been co-operative and understanding of the situation,” said Mayor Kelly Howlett.
“The Matt Dann Cultural Centre cannot screen the movies in an alternate venue as they are only available in a 35mm format and the equipment required are large and immovable fixtures at the Centre. However, we will continue to screen movies through our West End Movie series which is a free event for all community members.”
For more information on the progress of the MDCC, please contact Matt Dann Cultural Centre Operations Co-ordinator Jess O’Dea on 9156 9368 or email mdfoh@porthedland.wa.gov.au.
