Summer Reading Club

Participation in the Summer Reading Club encourages children and young people to read for fun and enjoyment all summer long, thereby sustaining their skills into the coming school year and facilitates recreational reading.

Participation in the Summer Reading Club is FREE!

You can encourage your child to participate in the Summer Reading Club in the following ways:

At Your Library:

  • Register your child/children in the 2018 Summer Reading Club.
  • Sign-up for a library card.
  • Collect a book log.
  • Return to the library all summer long.
  • Help/encourage your child to select books to read during the summer holidays. Library staff can help guide your child/children to select reading materials that are of interest to them.
  • Explore all types of reading materials: magazines, comics, poetry books, newspapers, diaries, reference materials, cookbooks, atlases, maps, instructions for games, picture books and more!
  • Participate in your library’s, Summer Reading Club and summer holiday activities. Ask your library staff for more information.

At Home:

  • Read with your children. Help your child to complete their reading log!
  • Talk about the books your child is reading. Look at the pictures, the cover and the title. Talk about what the book might be about.
  • Read from all types of reading materials: magazines, comics, poetry books, newspapers, diaries, reference materials, cookbooks, atlases, maps, instructions for games, picture books and more!
  • Let your child/children see you reading! Why not keep your own SRC reading log along with your children.

Online:

The Summer Reading Club themed website provides opportunities to participate in national online SRC competitions; post book raves, and artwork; and gives access to new Australian authors and illustrators. To support and extend your child’s SRC experience:

  • Encourage your children to participate in the online Summer Reading Club activities.
  • Download themed activity booklets and colouring sheets from the SRC website.
  • Help your child submit their entries to the online writing activities.
  • Encourage your children to upload their artwork to the Summer Reading Club.

Please contact the Port or South Hedland Libraries for more information on Summer Reading Club activities.
