Youth Week Shows We're Stronger Together

Published on Friday, 29 March 2019 at 2:39:28 PM

Youth Week is back for 2019, bringing together community organisations across Hedland for a week of fun filled entertainment for 12 to 25 year olds from 11 to 20 April.

This year, the JD Hardie Youth Zone, the Youth Involvement Council (YIC), Headspace and Hedland Youth Stakeholders Action Group (HYSAG) are working together across the week to offer safe, inclusive and diverse activities.

Mayor Camilo Blanco said the week was a time to reflect on the resilience of Hedland, pulling together during tough times.

“The recent events of Cyclone Veronica were a stressful time for everyone, so I’m pleased Youth Week will give young people the opportunity to chill out and have fun.

“This year, the Town has teamed up with other organisations who share our passion for providing uplifting and dynamic youth services.

“The message I’d like young people to take away is that we can achieve more when we work together to make positive contributions to our community.

“A Youth Carnival, Hedland’s Got Talent, Box Fit, SLAM Basketball, Dodgeball and a Pool Party offers a broad selection of activities to suit everyone’s tastes.

“I’d like to recognise the work of all the stakeholders who made this year’s program happen, and I look forward to seeing the activities kick off soon.”
