Community members are invited to attend the official reopening of the Shay Gap Memorial Park playground on Traine Crescent in South Hedland on Saturday, 14 March from 5pm.

The event will feature a scavenger hunt, face painting, food vendors, barbecue and an outdoor movie screening of Trolls. Attendees can also try out the new state of the art playground, which features a flying fox, tower and improved open space and accessibility.

Staff will be at the site with perception surveys in hand, so that attendees can have their say on the new playground and comment on the new features.

Hon Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the event was a significant milestone, marking another delivery in the Town’s playground replacement program.

“I invite everyone to come along on Saturday, 14 March from 5pm to join us in celebrating the reinvention of the Shay Gap Memorial Park Playground for a new generation to enjoy.

“The delivery of this upgrade follows the recent unveiling of the Cemetery Beach Park playground, which was enthusiastically received by local families.

“I’d like to acknowledge Yurra Pty Ltd for completing the upgrade in record time, delivering a world class playground with an impressive built form and plenty of new equipment to discover. I would also like to thank the Town of Port Hedland staff, who have worked tirelessly on this project to ensure it offers a fantastic space for the community.

“I look forward to seeing everyone down there, and I encourage everyone to let their friends and family know about the event.”

This is a family friendly, drug and alcohol free event.
