Your Hub, Your Say: South Hedland Integrated Sports Hub

Published on Thursday, 24 February 2022 at 11:48:00 AM

Community members are invited to have their say on the proposed masterplan for the South Hedland Integrated Sports Hub (SHISH).

The Town and contractors Carabiner and ASPECT Studios have developed the proposed masterplan.

The Town is hosting a Social Pinpoint application to garner the community’s feedback online.

Proposed SHISH masterplan features include the relocation of Kevin Scott Oval, a new aquatic centre, construction of a new large multi-purpose sports pavilion, multi-use sports fields, refurbishment of the existing stadium, multi-purpose courts, outdoor spaces and more.

SHISH delivery depends on securing funding from external government and industry sources.

Community perception surveys over many years have uncovered a local desire to upgrade Hedland’s sporting and recreational amenity, supporting a projected population of 27,000 residents by 2041.

The Town is undertaking community consultation due to the addition of features to the concept designs, which the Council endorsed in September 2020.

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged residents, clubs, community organisations and businesses to have their say on the proposed masterplan.

“Have your say on your hub: we’re undertaking community consultation on the proposed masterplan for the South Hedland Integrated Sports Hub, also known as SHISH.

“The proposed masterplan design has changed since September 2020, so we want to know your thoughts on its features and how you foresee using the space and what improvements could be made.

“The proposed masterplan will take community feedback on board and will be used to approach prospective funding partners.

“Council is excited to be revitalising Port Hedland’s regional level sporting and recreational precinct, catering for sports and recreation clubs and the wider community.”
