Published on Friday, 7 February 2020 at 9:08:56 AM

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that a YELLOW ALERT is current for Port and South Hedland, where people need to take action now to mitigate risk from Cyclone Damien.

The Cyclone is expected to cross the Pilbara Coast Saturday morning, bringing severe wind gusts, heavy rain and dangerous tidal levels.

People along the coast are warned of the potential for a very dangerous storm tide, rising significantly above the high tide mark with damaging waves and coastal inundation.

Please ensure you and your family take action on the following:

  • Tie down large items around your home, organisation or business
  • Fuel your vehicle
  • Make sure your pets are safe
  • Get your family together to sit out the cyclone
  • Make sure you have cash to last you a few days
  • Keep listening to your portable radio and watching TV for cyclone updates

The South Hedland Landfill is closed, however skip bins are located at the entrance to ensure the community can still dump waste required to prepare for a cyclone.
