Upgrades light up Colin Matheson Oval

Published on Thursday, 9 September 2021 at 3:37:03 PM

Colin Matheson Oval will undergo turf renovations, the installation of a cricket pitch and floodlight upgrades this month as part of the Town’s investment in Hedland’s sporting infrastructure assets.

The floodlights will be converted from halogen lamps to energy efficient LED luminaries, resulting in more direct illumination over the playing area and reduced brightness on surrounding residences.

Yurra Landscaping Services are installing the cricket pitch and Prestige Electrical are upgrading the floodlights. Cricket Australia and WA Cricket are contributing towards the cost of the pitch.

A crane and extended work platform will be in operation at the site. Works areas will be cordoned off for public safety, with the rest of the reserve remaining accessible for recreation.

CEO Carl Askew said the Town remains committed to upgrading sporting infrastructure.

“I’m pleased Colin Matheson Oval will undergo turf renovations, the installation of a cricket pitch and floodlight upgrades in September to make the area an even better space for families and sporting groups to enjoy.

“Energy efficient LED luminaries in the floodlights will enhance player visibility at night, while reducing the brightness experienced by surrounding residences.

“The Town believes that investing in Hedland’s sporting infrastructure secures our town’s liveability for the future.”

Community members are asked to please be mindful of signage, workers and machinery in the area for the duration of works.
