Tropical Cyclone Ilsa - BLUE Alert

Published on Tuesday, 11 April 2023 at 3:39:00 PM

The Town of Port Hedland is preparing for cyclonic weather as advised by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

The Town was advised of the change to the cyclone advisory from WATCH status to Blue Alert on Tuesday afternoon.

DFES advice is for people to prepare for cyclonic weather and organise an emergency kit including first aid kit, torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said as part of this preparation, the Town would be ensuring its facilities are prepared for the potential of dangerous weather and damaging winds.

“Over the next 24-48 hours our teams will be making sure any public venues do not pose a risk, including ensuring any equipment, shades or loose items are secured.

“Service levels at some of our public facilities may be reduced as we continue to keep a watchful eye on the path of Tropical Cyclone Ilsa. Keep an eye on the Town's Facebook pages to stay up to date with what facilities are open.

“People should follow DFES or search ‘Emergency WA’ for the most up-to-date information, and ensure they are familiar with the cyclone alert system and warnings.”

The Town’s landfill is open today until 4:15pm, and will reopen Wednesday morning at 7:30am. It will remain open unless there is a change to the Alert Level. After hours bins are available for people wanting to dispose outside of these normal operating times.

Rubbish bin collection remains the same, unless there is a change to the Alert Level.
