Tree planting along Wallwork Road

Published on Wednesday, 23 February 2022 at 10:22:11 AM

Around 235 peltophorum pterocarpum trees are currently being planted along Wallwork Road from Pinga Street to the overpass to improve greenery on the eastern side of the road.

15 Town staff are currently undertaking the tree planting works.

More trees will lead to a softer landscape, assist in dust suppression efforts, cool public spaces and provide better shade to protect pedestrians and drivers.

Mayor Peter Carter welcomed the tree planting works.

“We’ve embarked on the first year of our five-year tree planting programme, which will see 1,200 trees planted adjacent to high-volume roads across the local government area until 2026.

“Town staff are working hard to increase the amount of trees planted across Hedland, providing locals with more shade and suppressing dust."
