This morning’s Citizenship Ceremony welcomed 20 new residents to the Hedland community, further strengthening the town’s multicultural identity.
The new citizens are from Britain, the Philippines, South Africa, Vietnam, Greece, India, Croatia, Zimbabwe, Mauritius and Venezuela.
Local government authorities administer Citizenship Ceremonies across Australia.
Mayor Peter Carter said it was an important occasion for both the new citizens, and the community more broadly.
“I’d like to congratulate the 20 individuals from 10 countries who this morning took the Australian citizenship pledge, a milestone step in their journey to becoming Australians.
“After a challenging year, it’s fantastic to be able to hold in person ceremonies with friends and family in attendance, celebrating what it means to be Australian.
“Mateship, comradery and community are just some of the values we hold dear, and I’m proud of Hedland’s multicultural fabric which welcomes people from all over the world.”
