At Wednesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting, councillors recommended the Regional Joint Development Assessment Panel approve the double-storey development on Throssell Road, adjacent to McDonald’s.

The proposal includes 51 ensuite rooms with courtyards to each ground-floor room and balconies for each on the first floor.

There will be an outdoor pergola on the ground floor as well as lounge, reception area and guest laundry.

The development also includes 60 car-parking bays, two of which will accommodate electric vehicles while there will be five bays for visitor parking.

Mayor Peter Carter said the development would provide additional short-stay accommodation in Hedland.

“We have a vision to make Hedland not just an attractive place to work and live but also one tourists want to visit,” Mayor Carter said.

“This sort of short-term, studio-apartment style tourist development provides another accommodation option for South Hedland.

“This development is in the heart of the South Hedland town centre, close to shopping and other amenities.”
