The Town of Port Hedland welcomes the McGowan Government’s announcement that design has finalised on the $121.5 million Port Hedland Spoilbank Marina project, set to create 221 jobs during its two year build period.

Community members are invited to attend a Community Open Day at the Port Hedland Yacht Club this Friday, 12 June between 11:30am to 1pm to view Marina plans. The event will be hosted by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan and Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel.

Early works on the Marina are set to begin in October, with final features including a four lane boat ramp, 21 boat-pen marina with capacity to expand to 80 pens in the future, significant public gathering spaces and more.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP welcomed the State Government announcement, pointing to the significant community benefits of the project.

“I welcome the news that design has finalised on the $121.5 million Port Hedland Spoilbank Marina project, shaped by the views of the Spoilbank Community Reference Group and a key delivery from the McGowan Government.

“The development will create direct economic benefits for the Port Hedland community, with an estimated 221 jobs created during the construction phase and the potential for more job creation once small businesses can activate the area.

“Particularly in the context of broader economic challenges, the Town is proud to be contributing over $37 million to the project to support local job creation and long term economic growth.

“I’d like to thank Minister MacTiernan and Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel for chairing the Spoilbank Community Reference Group, which provided insights into how the design could best serve the community, such as expanding the boat pen capacity.

“Once constructed, the Marina will serve community members, seafarers and tourists, raising the profile of Hedland as an attractive destination to discover.”
