Shape the Future of Sports and Leisure in Hedland

Published on Wednesday, 13 February 2019 at 11:25:50 AM

Hedland residents are encouraged to have their say on the scope of three masterplans which are currently under development, shaping Hedland’s future lifestyle.

Masterplans for a South Hedland Integrated Sports Complex incorporating Wanangkura Stadium, a renewed JD Hardie Youth Centre and McGregor Street Sports Precinct incorporating the Turf Club track are all in the works.

Town Officers are now working with architects to develop these plans, first and foremost informed by the views of community stakeholders and residents.

Mayor Camilo Blanco encouraged people to participate in the survey, particularly in the project’s early stages.

“Community organisations, sporting groups and residents all have a stake in how sporting and leisure services are delivered in their town.

“Perhaps you’ve noticed ways the current facilities are not addressing your club’s needs, or untapped potential which masterplans can uncover.

“Major redevelopments of this scale need to address the wants and needs of the people they serve, reflecting the practicalities of everyday use.

“Once we analyse the surveys, we’ll be able to plan how to balance community need with responsible financial management.

“We don’t want these plans developing in isolation from community input, so have your say now.”

Please click here to complete the precinct masterplan surveys before Friday 22 February 2019.
