Relocation on the table for Stevens Street residents as safety remains a priority

Published on Friday, 6 September 2019 at 9:59:51 AM

A Special Council Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday 10 September to consider revoking Council’s previous decision to cease all actions with regard to the relocation of the residents of the Stevens Street Retirement Village.

In December 2018 Council resolved to cease relocation of the residents, prepare an emergency evacuation plan and request quotation for remediation work to bring the Site up to an acceptable standard.

The Town of Port Hedland has since sought quotations for remediation works, including a second structural engineering review of the building as well as additional legal advice regarding insurance coverage and risk mitigation issues for the site that impacts tenants, all visitors and all rate-payers.

This meeting is open to the public and will be live streamed on the Town of Port Hedland’s Facebook page.

The meeting agenda will be available prior to the meeting on the Town’s website.
