Hedland based sole traders and small to medium sized businesses with a registered ABN are invited to register with the Town’s new Buy Local, By Hedland platform.
The platform has been launched in response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with mandated closures across multiple economic sectors leaving people with uncertain futures.
The business registration and promotional platform gives Hedland based businesses the chance to share their stories on how they’re adapting to the changing environment, and how local customers can still access their goods and services.
Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the platform was part of the Town’s commitment to support sole traders and small to medium sized businesses during a tough time.
“With economists projecting job losses tipping 2 million nationally, we need to make sure we’re providing support where we can to those who have been plunged into a storm of uncertainty in little over a week.
“It’s often the sole traders and small to medium sized businesses who don’t have access to financial reserves during tough times. It was good to see the national economic stimulus package pass parliament last night, however I’m keen to see where local government can also step in to lend a hand.
“Buy Local, By Hedland provides some marketing and communications support to sole traders and small to medium sized businesses. Clearly, it’s only one part of the puzzle, however providing awareness on how sole traders and SMEs are acting innovatively during this pandemic will hopefully spur local spending and consumption among residents.
“For example, maybe you’re a restaurant that’s moving from predominantly dine in to take away only. Registering will help get the word out to the community about this change.
“By signing up, you will also receive handy links and resources from the State and Federal Government websites, such as upcoming grants and information on how to access cash flow injections.”
