Regional Economic Development Grant Leads to Hedland Windfall

Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLC, Minister for Regional Development, today announced the successful recipients of round two of the McGowan Government’s Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant.

Ten Pilbara applicants will share in $901,840 of funding, helping to create an estimated 80 new jobs and leverage a further $8.7 million in the region over the next three to five years.

State-wide, the RED Grant will deliver $28.8 million over five years into community driven projects which create jobs, drive economic development and diversify industry.

Port Hedland based technology company Tan Ninety was granted $107,387 to extend its 1TASK app, which digitises paper-based procedures, manuals and tasks in the mining industry.

FORM was granted $100,000 to expand Spinifex Hill Studio in South Hedland to empower Aboriginal artists to market their work.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling commended the McGowan Government for delivering on their commitment to support regional Western Australia.

“The McGowan Government’s Regional Economic Development Grant unlocks the potential of regional WA, diversifies local economies and creates new jobs right here in the Pilbara.

“The proposed expansion of Spinifex Hill Studio will give Hedland based Aboriginal artists more opportunities to market their work, and Tan Ninety’s 1TASK app will continue to revolutionise operations and value add in the mining industry.

“The RED Grant compliments the Town’s objectives to foster a thriving, resilient, sustainable and diverse local economy.

“I commend Minister MacTiernan’s commitment to leveraging the Pilbara’s existing strength in the resource sector to drive new opportunities for local residents, and I look forward to seeing the planned projects come to fruition.”
